What is the DSL light doing?

Solid green
The modem has connected to the nbn line. If there is still no internet, note the Internet light and call Highway.

Flashing
The modem is trying to connect. It may flash for a few minutes after a restart.

Off
The modem cannot detect a DSL signal. Check the cable, socket and steps below.

If the DSL light stays off or flashing

  1. Make sure the telephone cable is firmly connected to the modem’s DSL port—not a Phone, WAN or Ethernet port.
  2. Check the cable at the wall socket and remove any loose extension lead, double adaptor, splitter or old ADSL filter.
  3. If you have more than one telephone socket, check whether anything has recently been plugged into another socket.
  4. Turn the modem off at the power point for about 10 minutes, then turn it back on and wait for the DSL light to settle.
  5. If possible, try another short telephone cable or the socket the service normally uses.
Do not press the recessed Reset button. A factory reset may erase the Highway settings from your modem.

Hints & tips

  • Long telephone extension leads can reduce speed and stability.
  • Old or damaged internal phone wiring can cause intermittent dropouts.
  • Note whether the DSL light goes out when the service drops—that detail helps us identify a line problem.
